One day you slip off to bed, enjoying great traffic numbers and excellent conversion rates because of your time, money and effort instilled into your business website.  You awaken, prepare your coffee, pull up your Analytics account and suddenly lose your appetite: traffic has tailed off to darn near nothing overnight.  And you are completely clueless as to how such a dramatic event could happen within mere hours.  Dreams of having an excellent sales quarter nearly slide down a vortex of unknown proportions as you frantically dial your techie to ameliorate this issue before it crosses the tragedy line.  Before waking up your SEO nerd, there are six extremely useful questions and tests you can perform prior to losing your mind and heading out on the business lam, per se.  After running these tests, finding the source of your sudden search traffic attacks can be ameliorated for good.

Prior to beginning your self-assessment checklist below, it may behoove you to actually take a six month snapshot of your analytics account to make sure it’s truly your search traffic that dropped and not blacklisting of domains.  If this passes (which a severe, sudden dip will signify loss of traffic), proceed to questions below.

#1: Did Something Change In My Tracking Code?

You’ll frequently add new content, change website themes or even add other tracking codes from Bing into your HTML schema – the question is, did the position of your Analytics code change, get deleted or not work with other added scripting?  If something happened which is causing errors to persist, you’ll need to revert the changes back to how it was prior to tracking errors.  It may also be a matter of  double-checking that you remembered to re-add the code after your changes took place.  If you submitted a sitemap with errors, Google will not properly read your XML file, nor will it pick up the analytics tracking code correctly.  Always check to assure your code is still on every page, and added to new pages, before re-submitting the sitemap to search engines.

#3: Were You a Victim Of Hacker Attacks?

It’s an absolutely horrifying thought to know your half-million dollar website was hacked by professional cyber attackers; that thought amplifies when it happens to small businesses who cannot afford to replace their losses.  If hackers tore apart your site, your analytics code would probably be the last thing on your plate to worry about, although this question still needs to be asked.  If the threat was a rookie spam bomb or something of that nature, put your site into maintenance mode, change all database and site passwords, fix the erroneous coding and backup the entire site, both on your own computer and on your host’s.  This is nearly mandatory should you wish to make your Google Analytics code work correctly and track visitors which have been missed of late.

#4: Did you Experience An Algorithmic Update Overnight?

Water fowl and primates are known to change their minds while most of the Western Hemisphere is asleep; you may want to perform quick research to see if an algorithm change took place and altered the code your site needs to correctly track traffic.  Perhaps your content was found to violate plagiarism laws or keyword spam was problematic; something could very well have altered your traffic sources should Panda or Penguin nailed the world again.  There is also an individual named Matt Cutts who seems to have a bird’s eye view of when algorithm changes will take place throughout the year: search his name and find his blog, or videos, explaining what will happen and when, so you can expect the sudden dip in visitors without having a heart attack during the process.

#5: Did Your Site Receive a PR Penalty?

Another area of webmaster concern during traffic losses are whether or not the site received a page ranking penalty for numerous reasons, including:

• Duplicate content
• Spammy links
• Running link or content farms
• Selling links that propagate page rank unfairly
• “Tinying” your URL

Many more highly clandestine reasons go into what your quarterly page rank is and if you’ve experienced a loss in traffic, you’ve probably taken a hit somewhere.  Check all outbound links, check your entire website for duplicate content using Copyscape, tear down your sold links and make sure page URLs are search engine friendly without using T.Co or TinyUrl just to have Twitter-friendly links.  Once completely investigated and changes have been made, check your Google Analytics code and resubmit your sitemap to reinstate your traffic rights.

Similar to firing nuclear warheads at your competition, negative search engine optimization is the malicious attempt of your competition buying non-relevant links and slamming them towards your website in an effort to decrease visibility and page quality.  This can happen from onslaughts of contradictory reviews, too, which are now used by Google to rank your efforts in business.  Dirty, indeed, especially when you’ve done nothing more than operate an honest business and praise your competitors.  Unfortunately, this sort of SEM happens all the time, costing businesses to fold before they open.  Although domains holding a high authority can repel many of these attacks, nobody is safe from the wrath of mass-link mayhem.   Bing Webmaster Tools is the only search engine with the ability to disavow negative links through a useful tool; this should soon be developed by Google, yet by repelling negative links through one engine, the other should pick up the changes and give back your website visitorship since it’s caused by no fault of your own.

If It’s Not One, It’s The Other

For most, the issue with sudden search traffic loss will amount to one or two smaller intricacies that were overlooked; for others, a deeper concentration on newer web content, internal and external linking and light usage of keywords could be what is necessary, causing the entire website to temporarily go into sandbox mode.  Keep in mind that before you resubmit your sitemap to Google, your code needs to be clearly visible in the suggested areas so visitors can once again be tracked properly.   Before you decide to close up shop and throw your site in the recycle bin, check the small issues, then the large, to better see what could have killed your traffic, tracking, or both.

It is sad to see a name like ehow.com making everyone fool by targeting searched results. I wonder there must be more companies using the same tactic to earn millions in revenues by misleading the people.

I was trying to find a way to get the paypal money transferred to payoneer card. You know as an Internet Marketing guy we suspect things more than usual people. I searched on Google “How to withdraw money from paypal to payoneer”.

I clicked on ehow.com top ranking result (ehow is a big name), but what a shame that you get an article that is totally misleading. Page is filled with sneak adsense ads to make money for their own website (not sure if they revenue sharing program).

You can read the useless article here (No Follow added). You can read comments few people made that article is misleading.

What’s The Point?

It can be a mistake I agree and ehow.com doesn’t know about the issue. However, what if you make the same mistake? Or a small company makes the same mistake? Google Adsense has strict TOS that only effect small names and big names can do any kind of manipulation.

There is no button or link to report the article. And the adsense ads are almost un-identical that makes you think that these are the part of the content.

You can check the comments from people (including me). I guess ehow.com is aware of this misleading article or there can be more similar misleading articles (not sure).

Information is something that everyone has a right to get. When you get manipulative search results, then there should be some penalties.

We cannot ignore the fact that Content is Still King, and It will always be! You need to review your website as a human reader and ask yourself how fresh, unique, informative and insightful your website or blog content is? Try to avoid such mistakes and always write a content that strikes the mind of the users.

Case Study on Thin Content Websites!

Ezinearticles.com was the victim of Google algorithmic updates, because people were writing junk articles, using spun articles with correct grammar. However, the information was copied from different resources and re-written on own words. Sometimes, low quality articles got approved in EZA. When Google decided to attack low quality content farms or low quality content websites, EZA was included. Here to mention, there were many original quality articles, but they were also penalized because of other people’s junk content submissions and approvals.

Here to mention, I am also using Market Samurai that was better than Traffic Travis, but not now. It is one of the reasons that I switched to Traffic Travis to conduct my keyword research and track my websites.

You can load multiple websites in Traffic Travis to track the performance, conduct keyword research, analyze backlinks and find potential backlink partners.

After the penguin update, it is a very handy tool to detect backlinks that are hurting your website rankings. You can simply analyze your backlinks and open in a browser to contact webmaster to remove those links.

Moreover, you can also find potential websites within your niche that you can reach to grab links. You can save the results in PDF or CSV.

What I don’t like!

One thing I don’t like is that you need to enter proxy to find backlinks and if you are not using a proxy, you will get warning from Google that you are sending too many automated queries.

Finding free proxies is difficult, and you need to invest $8 per month to get the proxies. It is something that should be provided with Traffic Travis or some source to find free proxies.

I also don’t like the keyword research ideas that were generated because tends to be more towards PPC campaigns than organic SEO. For example, I don’t find potential long tail keywords.

You may also find some bugs saying, “Oops! This is embarrassing.”

What I like!

Market Samurai is now very slow and lags often, but Traffic Travis is fast. Sometimes, you may not like the performance, but overall satisfactory.

You can evaluate all your website pages to check the SEO score and find warnings on each individual pages.

It is a good tool to conduct basic level research and analysis. However, it does not offer complete SEO solutions.

Comparison with Similar SEO Tools

If you compare Traffic Travis with other SEO tools like Market Samurai and Keyword Elite, it has slight edge on functionality and features. Market Samurai was way much better, but recently they made big changes, which ruined the software completely.

There is also a FREE version of Traffic Travis available that you can use before buying the pro version. Pro version will give you unlimited use of features, but FREE version is also comprehensive.

My Review

I would rate 3 out 5 based on usability and functionality, but I cannot ignore the fact that there is no alternative to Traffic Travis in such price. It is worth spending $97 because you can manage multiple projects with this handy SEO Tool.

Eyesight May Get Effected

Recently, one of my friends told me that he was having a severe headache after using his laptop from past few days. Here to mention he is a social media expert and offer his services to clients. Once you post something on your facebook everything gets shuffled and you have to focus too deeply to find stuff. I feel too much pain in my eyes that I have reduced the usage of facebook. I have also stopped facebook marketing that I used to offer to my clients. Health comes first!

Monopoly

You cannot complain or give feedback on anything, or even if you give feedback it will never be considered. A good answer is that it is a FREE platform; they can do anything they like! Well! It is like when you are offering something for free you don’t giveaway FREE poison to kill people.

Worst Nightmare

Once you get the timeline, there is no way you can move to old profile. Only thing you can do is deactivate account and make a new profile, but it will soon change to timeline.

Privacy Issues

It is the most debated issue with facebook timelines. Not everyone on facebook is your friend and some add or subscribe to your updates with bad intentions. There is no privacy option to limit or hide your posts completely. Some of the facebook users use facebook purely for personal use.

I use my facebook for personal use not for promoting. I hate to show off my personal stuff to the world, but thanks to timeline you are not safe.

Ugly Display

Timeline may be awarded with unique design awards or some of the unique features, but it is not user-friendly. If you share images or post, they all will not be displayed until you click to see the full image. It is something very annoying to most users.

Facebook Pages

The new facebook page options are not user-friendly as they were before. Most of the users complain about finding their comments on pages they like. There is a separate box to show user comments, and it is very hard to find sometimes.

Why I hate Timeline?

Simple, it Su**cks! I messaged Mark Zuckerberg that, please allow users to choose what they like. Guess what? Next day, my account switched to timeline. Coincidence or I am Facebook I can do anything!

I am now a facebook hater, but it is part of my profession to promote websites and social share. So, I would just be using facebook for promotions.
